ABOUT ME

I remember so clearly the day that I realized I wanted to become a childbirth educator. I was sitting in session one of a prenatal series being taught at the London Health Unit, six months pregnant with my son Owen. As I listened to the instructor speak an immense sense of excitement overcame me, and I couldn't help but think that this woman had the most wonderful job in the world.....and then it struck me: this was something that I wanted to do.

My passionate interest in working with parents and parents-to-be never left me and so I embarked on my journey. After completing my studies of Childbirth Education through Douglas College and Lamaze International, I became certified and have been happily preparing expecting parents ever since! Not everyone is able to do what they love or embrace what they are passionate about, and I am so blessed to have found a field of work that I truly love.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is my philosophy of Birth?

As a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, my philosophy is centered upon the concept that every woman has the right to give birth in whatever way she chooses. I believe firmly in supporting women so that they can be confident in their own abilities, and ensure that they feel free to find comfort in a wide variety of ways. I believe that women giving birth should always be supported by their families and all members of the health care team, and I work hard to promote that philosophy.

When should I book my prenatal classes?

Prenatal classes should be booked two months in advance to ensure a spot. This will also allow us to work with you to find a time that best suits your schedule.

What should I wear/ bring?

The great thing about my prenatal classes is that I come to you, so you don't need to bring a thing! I will arrive birth ball in hand and will have everything that we need for our classes together. Do please have water on hand and wear loose fitting clothing as we will be practicing movements and laboring techniques and I want you to be as comfortable as possible.

At what time in my pregnancy should I take prenatal classes?

The ideal time to take prenatal classes is between 26-36 weeks. The aim is to make sure that you have completed your classes at least four weeks before your baby's due date, this way everything that you have learned is still fresh in your mind but there is still a time cushion in case your baby decides to come early.
